Verse One
I've spent too many night with the wrong ones
Giving pieces of my heart away
Believing love was something I had to earn
Praying someone would finally choose to stay
I learned the hard way what love wasn't
Through every goodbye and every scar
But somehow all those broken roads
Were leading me right where you are

Pre-Chorus
Maybe I had to lose my way
Maybe I had to wait
So I could recognize forever
When it finally came

Chorus
I found you later than I dreamed
But right when I needed you
After the almost loves
And all the things I thought were true
Now I thank God for every road
That didn't lead to you
Because every broken heart I had
Made room for something true
I may have found my true love late
But I'd wait all over again
If late was always meant to lead me
To my forever friend

Verse Two
You don't make me question where I stand
You don't make me chase what should be free
You hold my heart with gentle hands
And love the parts I used to hide away from me
There's no pretending, no uncertainty
No wondering if tomorrow you'll be gone
Just the kind of happiness that feels like home

Pre-Chorus
Maybe all those lonely years
Were teaching me to see
That love isn't supposed to hurt
When it's meant to be

Chorus
I found you later than I dreamed
But right when I needed you
After all the almost loves
And all the things I thought were true
Now I thank God for every road
That didn't lead to you
Because every broken heart I had
Made room for something true
I may have found my true love late
But I'd wait all over again
If late was always meant to lead me
To my forever friend

Bridge
So here's to every door that closed
Every tear I cried alone
Every heart that couldn't love me
The way my heart deserved to be loved
I wouldn't change a single chapter
Not even the ones that made me ache
Because they brought me to this moment
To the love I wouldn't trade

Final Chorus
I found you later than I dreamed
And somehow that's okay
Because you turned all my yesterdays
Into something beautiful today
Now I know the heart can heal
And love can still come through
Sometimes the longest road we walk
Lead us to the one that's true
I may have found my true love late
But you were worth the wait
And if I had to live it all again
I'd choose every road that lead me
To you at the perfect time
My once upon a lifetime
My forever
My true love
