i have no interest in daylight;

i'll get my rest early morning

to late afternoon.

because

i'm at ease

under the buzzing neon lights

of lost gas stations

and stingy motels

and rundown american diners.

i breathe the best

when i inhale

secondhand smoke

and cheap liquor

on a strangers breath.

i am more productive

grocery shopping alone

under florescent lights,

listening to

warbled music

on watered down speakers.

i have no interest in daylight;

locals speak softer

when sun dims

and the crickets

perform.

i have no interest in daylight;

creatures scurry in the night.

brittany schmidt

starry-eyed human with romance tangled in her hair; probably off napping somewhere.
