last train to eternity (6)

It was like something out of a dream, or a memory of a better time. The doors opened with a creak, and a conductor stepped out, dressed in a crisp uniform that seemed out of place in the desolate world.

"All aboard," the conductor called, his voice strong and clear. "The Midnight Train to Paradise awaits." Violet felt her legs move before her mind could catch up. She stepped forward, her heart racing. The conductor's eyes met hers, and for a moment, she hesitated.

Could she really leave everything behind? The memories, the pain, the uncertainty of what lay ahead? Lena was already on the train, holding her baby close.
