Last Letter

For Meghan

I found out you were gone on April Fool's.

However mean, I prayed it was a joke,

But truth reverberated through my soul:

You'd left like an ephemeral wisp of smoke.

— — — —

Crazy for believing I could hold you,

A job impossible for human hands;

The guilt of your goodbye, not mine to bear,

The reasons why, not mine to understand.

— — — —

My aching heart, your absence, ever mourns,

Though with the passing years, I've found some peace.

Your memory, a bright spot in my life;

My love for you will never, ever cease.
