On October Avenue

Tip-toeing, slow and steady

Taking a timid step toward the front door

Her way lit by the Harvest Moon

Large and bright yellow

So radiant and luminescent

Haunting and magical

Spooky and captivating

Tip-toe, tip-toe

Slow and steady

Cool air, misty rain

Methodically making her way to the door

Knees trembling

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Quickly striking the brass door knocker

"Trick or Treat!" forming on her lips

Door squeaking open with a creak and a groan

Her eyes bulging with fear

Scanning the large figure standing before her

Freezing momentarily in a panic

Shadowy hands reaching from the door's entrance

Thawing from her frozen state

Terror rising

A piercing scream escaping the depths of her soul

Running! Running!

Away from the entrance

Out of the yard

Heart racing

Running! Running!

All the way to the safety of home

Never again returning to

the last house on the left on October Avenue
