Last Days

When the last days came for us,

I didn’t know they would be the last.

I thought they would be like every other day so far:

Quiet, peaceful, as normal as they could be.

Sure, things had to be discreet.

I figured they’d be discreet for a long time:

Perhaps until he’d leave

Or change his mind.

You know, that guy with power over you from within your domain

And whose force lingered over me from afar.

And he did lose his control;

Well, sorta.

He did one day get investigated

And had to face the consequences of his own actions

And while he didn’t fully leave

All of what he truly wanted was gone.

But he took you down with him

And then dragged you down further

Now, you’re but a disgraced memory to them

While they see him as a present stain

Of course, if someone told me during those final days you’d be gone,

I’d laugh and curse them out.

We were still laughing and having fun

With jokes and small talk

And definitely nothing too deep,

Although…our conversations did get more serious.

Your circles were crumbling from betrayals and reveals.

With that, I feared what was between us was at risk.

So I confided a bit

But you said things were fine

So I didn’t push further.

I didn’t need to push further.

Your world did.

Now, I’m not sure how you’re doing.

Honestly…I’m not sure if you’re even out there.

But if you’re still around, somewhere:

I hope you’re alright.

I know you would have wanted me to move on

So I tried

And I haven’t, completely

But I’m healing.

I hope you do too.
