Lashing And Wagging

That's What Tongues Do

I've held my tongue

and you know what for

air reserved in my lungs

like missing socks in a drawer

the ache and the anger

blend together as one

a dead weighted anchor

the want inside of a gun

patience and forgiveness

hide just under my skin

pain and bitterness

the fingered trigger of sin

holding the peace

the taste of blood in my teeth

justice and release

evading me in my sleep

so when the dust finally settles

we'll see what words will be found

the black pot and the kettle

six feet under the ground

A/N:

Proverbs 18:21 states that "death and life are in the power of the tongue". Words have real consequences and shape the world around us.
