Lackadaisical lollygaggers loiter in the left lane,

slowing down the whole damn interstate on their scenic drives

one mile of straightaway every five, billboards, trees if you’re lucky,

Costcos, car dealerships and Carrabba’s if you’re not.

Oil fields and wind turbines, gas stations and jack shacks

Farm fresh eggs

Truckstops: take a shower and wash your truck,

find a hooker and get your dick sucked.

Waffle House

evacuation route

Exit now!

Roadside attractions

antiques and produce stands,

tomatoes, peaches, and homemade jam

Welcome centers: do they still give state maps?

Remember, stopping on family vacations with your sister on your side of the backseat,

looking at you

A map in the glove box from every state visited and a souvenir spoon on the

display rack on the dining room wall,

not far from the shadow box.

Shadow boxing, shadow dancing

Stayin’ Alive and Jive Talkin’

I spy something azure. Specific colors

in the sky, car, and world.

The license plate game.

One hundred throttles and gears in the fall.

I double dog dare you,

and you disappoint me

every single time.
