have you ever mentioned
to someone you know
that you're a poet
and then they give you that look
that funny face
a withering stare or glare
makes you feel
like you stepped in something
and after that
the awkward pours out of everything
like a bad B movie blood scene
upset and out of place
weird vibes ping around the room.
neither of you knows where to look
clear throats fill with strained coughs
clothes not needing adjustment
are adjusted
with a fidgety pervading nervousness
so much awkward
faker than a container
full of untested white goods
like a Sunday smile
like two percent milk
like a rat with a gold tooth
like a whispered curse
on baited breath
As-If Enterprises is trading strong
i didn’t come here
to change the world
to change your mind
a great many number of things
had to be written down
and i took that task
upon myself
