L 'Appel du vide

Call of the void

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 years ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

L’Appel du vide

The Call of the Void

The overwhelming yearning for the beckoning darkness

Of absolute nothingness

Of blackness

Of never-ending loneliness

All physical sensations are gone

Except hollowness and emptiness

Steeped in a darkness so pervasive that even

The shadows run away in apprehension and all light is banned

There is no sensation of physical touch

No feeling in the body

Except for the brain and the brain works overtime generating

Emotions, feelings and thoughts

Such dark, dangerous thoughts

Such beautiful, glorious and delicious thoughts

It is over. It is done.

So go on step in front of the train, while listening to the whistle scream for you to move

And the light coming toward you is blinding you to reality

Or arch your back and spread your beautiful white feathered wings and soar off a building or bridge

As you watch the ground summoning you with its inevitable bone=crushing, soul-stealing the blow

Just a momentary desire to fall into the void of nothingness

In your heart, you know you won't follow through, yet the desire and fear is real and palpable

The urge to live is so much stronger than the need for darkness

But for a moment, a brief short moment,

The temptation for falling into nothingness is such a strong almost impossible urge to end.
