The lemongrass curtains move

And it takes me around

two seconds before I

Get it, that it can't be you

And anyway, the aircon is always on here.

Outside, just a few branches of a tree

Dead in midsummer. Another thing that took me a while

To realise. It just seemed winter, here, with the air and all...

We'll take the naked tree as a sign of hope. A window

With jagged views on raised beds of pink

And soft covers embracing the bark in the colour of cardamom.

Everything is dead until it wants to be

Dead or alive

Pebbles turn into sand, and within the quiet, the cold

Ac air gives no rest.

It should have rained today; that would have made for a better Christmas

But the sun too, must be taken for its brightness

For the awareness imparted on both naked things

And those shaded
