Kool-Aid

poem

Oh, did I scare you?

Upset your fragile little backwoods world?

The one filled with judgment and hatred

With Trump clichés and family betrayals

Did your tiny bungled world shatter?

The one you’ve spent so many years creating as you backed away from everything you ran to

Holding yourself up in a place no one would find you unless they set it ablaze like the “good people on both sides” famously do?

Did that one single message confirm what you’ve long suspected and hurdle you down your black hole of fear that you crawl into bed with every night while Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck sing you lullabies and Steve Bannon tucks you in?

That’s okay.

You’re a good boy, Uncle.

Just wake up in the morning and drink your Kool-Aid like a good boy…

While “Give Peace a Chance” echoes in the background
