King Lear
Poem written to summarize the tragedy of King Lear
King Lear hath done most horrible
Deeds that seemed so genuinely terrible
Terrible as though they have seemed
For their worth may not have literally deemed
To watch his heart in pain and agony
With the depressing tone of his painful melody
A melody that thrives on the base of its tune
For its light outshines the magnificence of the moon
He hath done no harm to Regan and Goneril
But his good intentions do come with peril
Peril that strikes the balance of the knight
Peril that shakes the thought of the evil sight
Poor Cordelia’s heart has been broken
As she saw her father being treated like a pitiful token
How does her just heart call for forgiveness
On Lear’s first day as the king of angerness?
Yet with such a kind heart
She feels the presence of a greater chart
A chart with useful blasts
That makes people say: It lasts
To ask and learn of Cordelia’s honesty
Is to master the next possible modesty
Edgar’s heart matches the cup of gold:
A cup that says: the brave and the bold
The fairness of Edgar’s heart will shine
But how long will this light continue growing
before a person comes saying: It's mine
That person who hath done his image wrong
gave him a completely horrible song
An evil song that seemed so long
For the poor and lower classes to bear
And the middle class to prolong
Edmund: the serpent of instability
whose pain and misery know no ends
and knows not of the evil he sends
Beware the schemes of this fox
For it could bring you unpleasant socks
Took Goneril and Regan for fools
Only to see their bodies in deadpools
Had they not used destructive tools
They would not have done it through old schools
Alas, a price must be paid
To even the ones they slayed
And what better way to slay
Than the body of their play?
Gloucester’s eyes might not have seen
The true intentions of the bean
Once his eyes were gone
The truth became clear and done
To live and regret such a day
Is the fool’s chance to play
What better way to pay than
With the blame of his own say?
The purpose of the only tale
Was the irrational way of sale
To whom you convince or hail
Know your true sail
Only that will save your bail
Cordelia’s death in the eyes of Lear
Gives out the true meanings of tear
Madness has struck the good king
To observe the characters sing
To see his dead daughter
Is another way of saying: I hate slaughter
Alas, the time has come
To approve the final truth
One that will truly soothe
Lear has yet to make his mind
About the shattered gloom of the blind
To keep the bias or have the bar signed
Just keep telling them: I have them fined
Will is a path of great power
To reach a top tower
from the bottom of a cliff shower
Lear has yet to taste
Its harsh tone of haste
Never underestimate
Never underestimate
Never underestimate
The true power of fate
For the only repercussion that Lear faced
is the ultimate sign of fear and hate
Remember: Always pick your cards straight
or you will lose your destined gate
When the time has come, it would have been too late
