Kindred Relations

Connections

The trees and I are intertwined

Mirroring each other before the incline

To become who we are

Roots and principles must come forth

For us to stand firm

to take our place on the earth.

Water divvied up for us

First a nice pour

Next, comes a refreshing submerge.

Entrenched in water, we grow, arise

Rise anew.

because this treaty of ascension

has long been overdue

Rise, Rise, Rise.

Ok I must stop now, there’s something I must say

And these next sentences of words,

Float around in my thoughts each passing day.

Are trees like us, do they move like us?

Arms to branches lifted like the raising of one’s chin.

Or up and down, or side to side

By the swiftness or pull of the wind.

A zephyr in the air

Feels like peace and serenity.

Roots, limbs, become still like the soul

Until a gale turns into a tornado

Now we will see, now behold.

The atmosphere is changing

Chaos ensues, trees violently pulled up from the earth

Now nothing is perched.

We can’t rest either when there’s a storm,

We run and try to escape,

However sometimes we both must endure, stay patient,

And wait.

like trees, we can stand firm

Can we keep our faithful moral norms?

There will be damage when all is said and done

Trees collide with homes and buildings

the earth is left untangled.

The thought of us colliding with one another can unravel to

if a tussle leads to a mangle.

When all is said and done, the carnage can be

Reconciled, rebuilt.

We as people and trees must be willing to sow things up like a quilt

Once done, something beautiful can take place

All it takes is a little faith, just simply wait.

The trees will be rooted in the earth

And start to grow again,

We can do the same,

Grow stronger, ascend

this is the way of the world; we both simply live.

There must be some give and take for this to happen

Show some grace, pour a little water, show compassion.

The sun will set on us both and then we can shine.

If that happens, I’d say there’s something in the air,

Something that we both feel, divine.
