Killing A Moment
Killing a moment happens quietly,
no sound, no warning sign.
A glance missed, a word unsaid,
a crossing of invisible lines.
It happens when we look away,
instead of staying present.
When distraction steals something real,
and calls it insignificant.
Moments die when rushed through,
treated like something to survive.
Instead of something rare and brief,
that reminds us we are alive.
We kill them with our phones glowing,
with thoughts already ahead.
Never fully where we are,
never where our feet are led.
A laugh fades too quickly,
a silence fills with regret.
Realising too late what mattered,
what we will not get.
Moments do not announce themselves,
they slip past unseen.
Only revealing their importance,
once they have been.
I try now to move slower,
to listen when time speaks.
To let moments breathe and exist,
instead of feeling weak.
I no longer want to kill moments,
just to get through the day.
I want to live inside them,
before they slip away.
