Killer Lightning

The sky turned strange before the first bright strike,

Clouds gathered heavy over sleeping land,

The silence held a warning in its chest,

A breath before destruction raised its hand.

Then lightning split the dark from end to end,

White veins exploding through the waiting air,

No mercy lived inside its sudden path,

Only a force that answered to nowhere.

Trees bowed and cracked beneath electric fire,

Windows reflected flashes sharp and cold,

Every second stretched and felt unreal,

As if the night grew dangerous and old.

The thunder came like something breaking free,

Rolling across the roofs and empty roads,

Each strike arrived with purpose and with speed,

Leaving the world to carry what it showed.

I watched the storm redraw familiar ground,

Turn ordinary places into fear,

Power does not announce itself with words,

It arrives and makes its presence clear.

The rain came hard and washed the air clean,

Though sparks still lingered somewhere out of sight,

The clouds moved on as though they had done nothing,

Leaving the earth to reckon with the night.

Morning revealed the damage left behind,

Burn marks and silence settled into place,

Proof that some forces enter without warning,

And leave their memory across each space.

Still every storm reminds me of that sky,

How beauty and destruction can align,

One sharp flash changing everything at once,

Then disappearing faster than a sign.
