Keep them shut

Eyes wide open

Have you seen identities

shift

Like a magician's

hand in play

.

The clown like smile

frozen still

like it was never to

be placed

.

Have you seen the colors

fade,

The niceties ,

disappear

.

The mask that falls

when you blink

Gone--

only to reappear

.

Have you seen

the look they give?

How their eyes

don't match their smile

.

The glitter they show

is not care,

Knowing too will take,

but a while

.

The wretched twist

Oh, the jabbing

Soon, is it

bound to come?

.

Don't trust too much

Don't trust--

A lesson you'll soon

learn.
