Katrina

I'll never date a girl named Katrina.

In 2012, Hurricane Katrina slammed through the city of New Orleans. My father, living there at the time, had no means to leave so he endured the storm in the Superdome. He wrote the following poem during his time:

"Huddled in a tiny church with folks I hardly know.

I would have chose a different place, if I'd had a place to go.

The walls are shaking, the windows are breaking, the ceiling's falling down.

The wind is howling my stomach's growling, I can't get out of town.

The way things are looking, by hook or by crookin,

I'm stuck in this arena. But, I've made a decision,

In fact it's a vision! I'll never date a girl named Katrina.

It won't take no guessing cause man I ain't messing with a woman that carries that name.

If she comes a flirtin there's one thing for certain, she'll have only herself to blame.

Cause I'll take a Mary, a Phyllis, a Sherry, a Rebecca or Edwina.

But, don't come near me, you've something to fear me, if you've got the name Katrina."
