Kaleidoscope Human

A poem about the colours that make me human

By MyaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I always carry my red lighter because my friend told me offering one to a stranger in need is a good way to make new friends.

I am never without my golden bracelets because they’re made of my Grandma’s old gold and I like carrying a piece of her wherever I go.

I wont take off my green ring because it’s my mum’s favourite colour. She looks beautiful wearing green clothes and I want to feel beautiful too.

I don’t have my LED lights set to blue in my room anymore because that’s the colour they were when I tried to kill myself.

I love white blossom trees because they line the street I used to skate down with my brother. Now when I wake up at university they’re the first thing I see when I look out of the window.

I will always think him when I drink pink rosé because we finished a bottle in your room the first night we met.

I make sure my black shoes are facing the right way up after I’ve worn them because my Mum told me leaving one shoe turned over is bad luck.

I am a collage of my favourite people. A kaleidoscope human made up of other humans. A blank canvas made colourful by those I love the most.
