Just Fine

In the midst of the moment it may all seem fine

Until you silence your mind

& go back to that time and then you realize

It wasn’t all that fine

From the twinkle in your eye to the frown in disguise

By the wrinkles of that o so fake smile

Saying “I am fine”

But it’s a lie

Just so all won’t know what lies inside

The demons that reside

Deep, deep in the dark crevices of the mind

Cause you dare not shine light

For all to see what you hold so dear, close to you like a precious prize

You dare not release but instead give it out in bursts of low and high tides

Hoping to be caught and gently unraveled, layer by layer by layer, each a higher level of surprise

Deeper and deeper into the labyrinth within your mind

In the center resides

That surprise so sweet and the only one of its kind

Unique yet categorized

Blessed yet demonized

Intangible yet marginalized

Grand yet criticized

So you push it all back inside

Deep, deep where it’s safe to hide

Under layer and layers of lies

And pretend it’s all fine

Releasing all that’s in the mind

For that fleeting moment where we can be just fine
