Rain dream when it’s hot

Purple flowers wince in June

I waited for you in the corn field

I even found a tree

With nice shade and

A swing.

Yesterday I was

Walking to our school

I turned left and instead

Went to your house

Your sister the scarecrow

Waved at me and

Instinct took over

I took flight.

I flew until city’s night

And nestled on a window

The concrete ledge hurt

My claws and the wind

Frightened me but the

View held a peaceful inspiration.

Golden canals lead to you

Don’t they flow in strings

Like the one that ties us.

The birds aren’t friendly

To a scaly thing at dawn they pushed

Me off the ledge and I scuttled

Through your mind’s stairs

Through your heart’s sewers

I made my way out of the city

My spine grew up again.

I’m still in the corn field

Bees buzzing around my lips

I drink June wine

While I wait for a friend in you.
