Jumping off the Cliff Top
I survived I am still alive

Jumping off the Cliff Top
Wind cuts my face.
Cliff edge crumbles.
Below a dark sea.
I taste salt.
Shoes off, toes cold.
Birds fly above.
They do not know.
They just glide.
I close my eyes.
Feel the pull.
The sky a mouth.
The sea a hand.
My fingers loosen.
Rock underfoot shakes.
A voice behind me.
I cannot turn.
Childhood flashes.
A kite in the sky.
A dog barking.
The smell of grass.
The wind rises.
A shout far away.
Hands reach.
But too late.
Air rushes up.
My body a feather.
Heart still, mind clear.
Sea opens below.
I break the surface.
Cold, dark, endless.
But I am awake.
And still breathing.
why didn’t I die?
