An Ocean Sonnet

A punctured jellyfish rises anew,

A Death come to visit cousins swimming.

A white and purple umbrella abloom,

So startling, we found ourselves running.

Waves meet our knees, resisting our leaps.

How did it find us here, from down below,

Where we can only imagine the deep?

Blue so rich, only the whales bellow.

Cousins retreat back to towels and sand.

An opportune time to warm up our legs,

And once again hold grandmothers’ hand.

The sand is soft, and yet the ocean begs,

“Return to me, no more deaths come to you,

And summers like these, we will find quite few.”
