Jealousy

I am just a shadow

Nothing but a shell

I’m just the thing

Behind the scenes

With not a friend to tell

I am just the background noise

The hushed part of the soul

The silent underlying groan

That really takes its toll

I am just the distant thought

Left lonely in your mind

The abandoned piece

That knows you need

To leave her far behind

I’m jealous of that part of me

That forgets who I really am

Who strides through life

As happily as she can

The sad thing is

This jealousy

Has promptly been misplaced

‘Cause that part of me

That fails to see

The shadow has been erased

I am just a shadow
