A Poem

January 2018

Here we are again, another turn in history

A time where promises are made to oneself and each other and then broken

Moments are so precious and so are resolutions

In the end, we repeat the cycle and say, “Next year, I will...”

Yet, we don’t

It’s like a festering sore that cannot heal because we are too childlike to stop picking at the scab and let it heal

Don’t be the guy who drags the girl along and drops her

Don’t be the girl who plagues the guy and plays him

Let’s be people of integrity; be honest

If you don’t love someone, don’t lie and say you do

If you don’t want to be there, don’t force yourself with denial

So, here we go again, another turn in history

Change the cycle or be forever enslaved to it
