It Was Time To Run

Go faster than you ever ran in your life

It Was Time to Run

The teeth in the skull began to chatter,
Shivering deep in the grave’s cold bed.
The earth gave one slow, dreadful sigh,
As silent whispers filled my head.

The darkness breathed between the stones,
With fingers made of mist and bone.
Every shadow slowly stretched,
To claim a soul that walked alone.

A crow cried out where no tree stood,
Its hollow call tore through the night.
The moon slipped behind a funeral cloud,
Stealing every trace of light.

The coffin creaked beneath the soil,
Its splintered lid began to rise.
Something smiled without a face,
Yet watched me with unblinking eyes.

The wind grew sharp as broken glass,
Dead leaves danced around my feet.
Each heartbeat thundered in my chest,
Keeping time with doom’s slow beat.

Then came the sound I feared the most,
Those chattering teeth drew ever near.
The grave had woken from its sleep,
To feast upon forgotten fear.

The path behind had disappeared,
The trees stood still like grieving men.
There was no place left safe to hide,
No promise of the dawn again.

The skull turned slowly towards my face,
Its empty grin both wide and grim.
It was time to run… but far too late
For something else was chasing him
