It Speaks Words

I waited on a bench for you in the rain
Just so I could hear you call my name
Even if it was just an echo
That the droplets reverberated to me

I knew you would never meet me there
But my heart told me it was meant to be
The aching started when you were near
So I wasn't surprised that the tears didn't stop
when you made your leave

Freezing alone in my bed
Sweat beading from my pits
I asked my heart why she said
I should wait for an empty promise

She skipped
all the way down the sidewalk

I can finally feel

She said

A needle poked in
and then poked out
in rhythmic pulsing beats
little glass beads woven throughout
glistening in the sun's heat
A driving force pushed me out
Of emotionless tired sleep
Dropping me from cold as ice
to fire running deep

But why did you love him
I asked
the pressure of pain in my head
It pierced me with a seeping gash

look, finally, you bled

Upon the floor it trickled red
but tears did wash away
when I felt the scar it left
Finally, I could breathe

Can you just stop
I asked my love
trying to slow the bleed
but it just kept flowing out
like a promise that never leaves
it spiraled up, it spiraled down
it spun me 'round, it made no sound
I darn well couldn't speak
I just watched in utter shock
as the dam fell piece by piece

Was there always this much abundance?
I asked
wondering where it came from

It was there, in a cage
buried beneath the sea
and you wouldn't let the waters move

my eyes said to me

It trickled down
soft and slow
As I laid there trying to sleep
recounting all the times that I
couldn't take the heat
from wicked tongues and fingered chokes
every person that couldn't love me
why must they stab me cold
with words that haunt the air
when hatred seeps out their pores
the devil caught with his snare

how do I love
in a place
that taught me so much hate
how could I be gentle with
those who tarnish me

I breathe it in
Learning love
with each tender word
spilling off your tongue
Lips to my ear
arms wrapped tight
The first time I truly felt loves warm embrace
But you were never meant to stay
Just to help me remember
what love really means.

I sat on a bench
with the sun beaming on my face
my eyes closed, lips curled up
A tear trickles down my cheek
