It's Simply the Alcohol, Dear

A Poem About Alcoholism

By Alexis NewmanPublished 8 years ago • 1 min read

The pain is far too great,

the burden too heavy to hold

your mind is not in a state

to feel anything but cold.

When people walk by

they only see a shell.

Not one of them say hi,

yet still watched as you fell.

Please let me tell you

that you are never alone,

and that other people too

have forgotten their home.

When we say "I hate you,"

it's really not you we hate.

It's the alcohol within you,

I feel as though my point is far too late.

Alcoholism isn't a fun game to play.

It kills people all around

happens every single day,

it can take you to the ground.

This is something you can never rid of

yet the moral is very clear.

It's not you or the person you love,

it's simply the alcohol dear.
