It's Been Quite Some Time

It's been quite some time

Since I took some time off the clock

And put its hands to rest.

So today when I woke up

It wasn't to an alarm,

I woke up to the sun instead.

I let my forehead at ease

And allowed the wrinkles to soften,

I stretched my arms a bit longer

And took my time to hatch out of that blanket of mine,

It was nice.

It’s been quite some time

Since I took some aroma off the coffee beans

And let them settle on my cup.

So today, I watched them brew for a while,

Then cupped my hands around the mug

And sipped it slowly.

Letting its warmth spread across my words that have been clogged in my throat for a while now.

It's been quite some time

Since I plucked some imagination off the sky

And figured the shape of the clouds,

So I laid silently in my balcony today,

Aligned my back with the ground

And felt every breath travel across my body.

I have been keeping myself a lot busy.

It's been a while since

I dusted the dirt off my spectacles

To get a better point of view of the things

I have been taking for granted lately.

So today while spooning my meal I didn't bite too hard on every morsel of food that I ate.

How I wish someone told me that working hard doesn't mean being hard

On yourself.

So today I relaxed my jaws a little bit,

Opened my palms up,

And let my shoulders fall a little loose

Because it's been quite a while

Since I took my hands off my phone,

My mind off my work,

My eyes my off my vision,

How I wish someone told me that taking a break can come without feeling guilty of taking it too.

Hence,

Today I took some time off

To release the thoughts off my head.

I made myself a tidy bed,

Put on my favorite music,

And closed my eyes to this world for a while.

Because it had been quite some time

Since I took this routine off from my chest

And gave myself some rest.
