Is This October

You can find October somewhere just after September,

Down a meandering road lined with maple trees,

Surrounded by pink cotton candy bushes...

There'd be a little town with lanterns glowing gold, with a crooked sign that reads,

" Come As You Are, but Leave Before The Cold"

The streets would smell like cinnamon,

Like apple pies cooling by an open window, like old books, woodsmoke and memories you didn't know you were ready to release...

You could rent a cabin by the forest

Where the fog curls around your ankles...

Where the mornings wear a silver sweater

And the evenings taste like honey...

There'd be a lake that grasps the moonlight

And a bridge that creaks beneath your feet

And a little restaurant on the corner that serves hot chocolate with a side of melodies...

The locals would be quiet, and obscure, with stories tucked beneath their flesh...

They'd tell you that October is a portal

You just have to be brave enough to walk through it!

At night the stars would hang like chandeliers parading across the sky,

While ghosts twirl softly through the gardens and black cats watch the world go by...

You'd find a festival in the town square with bonfires burning bright,

Where strangers share their profound wishes and no one feels alone at night...

And somewhere past the fields of sunflowers

Where the gale makes the tall grass sway

You'll find the version of yourself,

You abandoned somewhere along the way

And when your visit finally ends, when the last blood red leaf falls from the trees, you'll carry October home inside you.

A little autumn tucked beneath your sleeve.

October isn't only,

Costumes or Pumpkins

Candy

Nor the chill in the air...

It is the beauty of things becoming different

And learning that different can still be fair...

It's a place where endings wear diamond necklaces

Letting go feels like peace

Where The leaves fall like letters

From a sky that has a lot to remember.
