It is dark.
The moon is cloaked in heavy mist. The stars hidden by a thick shroud of fog.
Soft whispers from Night Owl, the one who sees in the darkness.
“Who are you?”
“ Me? Oh I don’t know. I’m just a girl I guess."
Night Owl turns her head in what appears to be a full 360-degree rotation and asks again.
“Who are you?”
“Well…” I say frustrated. “I’m me I guess. I’m a soul on earth. I’m a keeper of the flame. I’m a daughter, a granddaughter, a mother, a sister, a friend, an ally.”
“You are one who sees.” Says Night Owl.
“Oh no, not like you Night Owl. I only see so much. I don’t see in the darkness. I don’t even see… you… now… Wait!”
The realization pours out from me like a floodlight shining, illuminating my surroundings.
I see.
I see who I am.
I am one who sees a night owl on her cedar branch perch in the depths of a dark forest night.
I am one who sees the interconnectedness of all beings.
I am one who sees the soul underneath all of the conditioning and identification with form.
I am one who sees your heart shining there.
A flaming beacon of hope and love singing out from all beings, so we can all see.
So we can see each other fully in our own unique light.
A lighthouse guiding us home.
A night owl silently floats beneath the tree canopy, showing me that I can see in the dark if only I will look.
If only I have eyes to see and a heart that shines.
