Is He Still Me?

A Poem

Is He Still Me?

A mansion of empty promise…

A neighbourhood of diminished dreams.

A candle softly flickers…

Silent are his screams.

Inside he holds the wars…

Everybody he tries to please.

And the vultures keep on picking,

They bring him to his knees.

Everyday he carries on,

Believing one day he’ll be free.

And everyday I ask myself…

Is He Still Me?

Torn a bitter rivalry…

He balances on the barbed fence.

But the wire cuts through him…

On he pretends.

This man was once so strong…

Is now so very weak.

Lost deep inside are the words…

For to lose pride is to speak.

Everyday he carries on,

Believing one day he’ll be free.

And everyday I ask myself…

Is He Still Me?

The faces of the past,

Haunt him, Torments his soul.

The guilt of the past...

Makes him doubt his heart.

Inside the spirit rages…

Anger, Frustration, Truth.

Inside the mind crumbles…

With the memories as the proof.

Everyday he carries on,

Believing one day he’ll be free.

And everyday I ask myself…

Is He Still Me?

Everyday I carry on,

Aching one day to be free…

And everyday I ask myself…

Is He Still Me?
