Irrational Fears

Don't Turn Around

I'll not give in to what I feel.

There is no reason for alarm.

What lies before me is what's real

And what's behind may do no harm

And yet, my tingling spine portends

Impending doom and evil ends.

~

There is no reason for alarm.

A need for fear I've yet to see.

A glance behind me should disarm

The spell that's taken hold of me

But racing heart and screaming mind

Dispel the courage I would find.

~

A need for fear, I've yet to see.

No rationale for all this dread.

There's nothing here; there's only me

And made-up monsters in my head.

I'll simply push the fear aside

And forge ahead with strength and pride.

~

No rationale for all this dread

Incorporeal or otherwise

Has manifest itself, to shed

Light, to show or emphasize

A cause for heightened senses now

Nor for the sweat upon my brow.

~

Incorporeal or otherwise,

What holds me back must be dismissed.

I've come too far to compromise.

My progress forward will persist.

There is no hellhound on my trail.

Imagined demons won't prevail.

~

What holds me back must be dismissed

And so I gather all my will.

My mind grows calm. I clench my fist

And force my trembling limbs to still.

My terror, now, is held in check

As icy claws close 'round my neck.

Author's Note: I haven't played with a Trenta - Sei in quite a while. I thought the repetitive phrasing might add a nice, dramatic touch to this challenge entry.
