Iridescent

Gaze into my eyes and hold,

A bond that reaches out, consoles.

Settle into swaying blues,

And sail with me to deeper hues.

Notice pink skies fade to gray

As we amble on our way.

Slowly, toward my hidden sound

Where I am lost,

Long to be found.

Glance the shades that flicker green!

Make you question what you’ve seen,

“Maybe grays were fleeting by?

Travelers that simply vie

For other seas with steady waves,

Hoping color frees them from their graves.”

Yet as your boat continues on,

The colors that swelled and lingered: gone.

All now that is left to see,

A transparent figure, praying, on knee.

“I am iridescent glass.

Ethereal, yet made to last.

Mesmerizing beauty shrouds me,

Light of life nurtures and shields me.”

Looking deeper reveals a truth,

Fragile, sits a shattering youth.

Cracks have formed from dangers past.

Survivor, clawing toward the mast;

She cries and hopes such height reveals

Warm horizons,

Color that heals.

I am iridescent glass.

Ethereal, how long will I last?

Strength derived from past esprit.

How do you see someone

like me?
