Invincible

A Study in Conflict

By Kallyn DesmaraisPublished 8 years ago • 1 min read

I am invincible—

that means no one can hurt me;

sitting captive in our room.

Another mile,

how I hate your smile;

alarm clock ringing me from a dream.

If the rain I thought was cleansing

carved a path down my cheek,

perhaps it was a tear;

I was perhaps just a trifle upset.

I shrug, leaning away;

remembering sunny smiles

and kisses full of honey.

This morning I carried my journal

into a loud world filled with people.

I watched you walk away until

snow built a fort in my hair.

This heartbeat is nothing but you.

It kills all the little things,

too small to notice.

It is a talking drum;

Pounding in a soundproof room;

A sea of quiet loudness.
