A poem about life and death

I often think about

how when I inevitably

die

all the pieces of me will be

scattered throughout the universe

in a way I'll never get to see.

I also often think about

how in some way

they already are.

All of the pieces of art I've given away

Scattered in homes I might never see.

All the strands of my hair

birds have collected

and used to make their nests

I'll never see.

All of the impacts I've made

on lives -

a smile

a conversation

I'll never see.

All the love I've given

spread over lives like butter on toast.

The universe and me are one in the same

interconnected and

interaffected.

Death will be something new

and something the same.

I've always been scattered

everywhere

And I always will be

So when I'm gone

look to the birds

look to my art

look to my love

and know I'm everywhere.

I always have been.
