Tucked-up inside..

Quick note: I wrote this typical stream, free verse that I sometimes do without much thought a couple of weeks ago, just needed to give it a quick edit. I love the word insular and the meaning too, so thought that could be a good word to use for the challenge in repeating lines.. Yet, as per usual I’ve realised it doesn’t fulfil the criteria as I have a silly habit of skimming over criteria in challenges and there’s nothing satirical about this! 😂 So it is not an entry! Oh well. I always march to the beat of my own drum, so that’s that. 😄

“Insular primarily means being isolated, detached, or having a narrow, restricted outlook on the world”. - Cambridge Dictionary

🧦 🧦

cotton socks

pulled up tightly

enclosed in a warm blanket

safely cocooned

no bother peering outside

exit doors?

cover those eyes

wearing an eye mask (literally)

like those you get on the plane

to maximise eternal sleep

better to dream than to be preyed on

insular space

mine

not their’s or your’s

leaving? might tomorrow

might not

insular now

no one understands

no matter how many times..

people disappoint

safer to stay in

who has the energy for drama?

yet it comes with a cost and

there’s a certain complicity

that the mind brushes aside

if one is insular too long

troubling one’s self..

tucked-up in a heated blanket

outside?

not today

or the next,

or even the day after that

too many competing thoughts in the head

That must be worked through systematically

so they don’t snarl at each other anymore

and yet in time there’s a peace in silently enjoying

one’s own company

zen eventually appears

i am good

i am zen

i am insular
