We start at Home, safe and comfortable
We start in Quiet, calm and serene
But we can’t help but Dream
Soft comfort gives way to Rough curiosity
A Song of exploration kindling in our souls.
Do we give Voice to the rhythm? Or hide in our silence?
Change whispers for us to move, the silence breaks
The Static is too much to ignore.
We push ourselves into Chaos
And through the fires we Grow.
Old habits Rot away
We gain Distance from our past selves
The new angle gives us new Sight - a chance to know a new us.
To Touch a new truth.
We seek Solace in the change now, finding our Future in our rebirth.
The history perches on our shoulder, reminding us of who we were
A Reflection of the long road we’ve travelled to come here. To this moment.
We look with Sorrow at the wounds we gained along the way
But we turn to the new world before us, Joy tickling beneath the skin.
There’s a Magic in the mystery of what’s to come.

B. A. Durham’s False Memories blends dream and reality in a seamless mix. As his father, afflicted by Alzheimer’s, fades away, the narrator is haunted by a dream that may be a memory, returning to him insistently. The piece is full of wonderful detail (the father touching his lip where once there was a mustache, “but now he is clean-shaven—he has been for years” — and moving in revealing the complexities of a family’s life. A worthy winner which shows the power of dreams to influence us.
