Now as I’m laying down to sleep
I’m asking God my soul to keep
I wish I may, I wish I might
Receive the wish I wish tonight
Anxiety keeps me awake
A peaceful sleep I cannot fake
Each night I toss and then I turn
My energy, a big concern
This sleeplessness is hell, no doubt
Its influence just wears me out
May “Unrest” hear these words I choose
“Insomnia, tonight you lose”
I’m praying now to Him above
You know the One I’m speaking of
“Through R.E.M. let eyeballs dance
Without His help I’ve got no chance”
I don’t do drugs, can’t pay its bills
And can’t afford addictive pills
I’m seeking rest a better way
I’ll take my chances, come what may
Each night as billions go to bed
An unknown number wake up dead
I’m wary what I can’t foresee
Tomorrow isn’t promised me
So as I sleep, in case I die
I ask for grace I cannot buy
I do my best each day to live
Avoiding things love can’t forgive
As I approach this slumber test
I’m asking Lord, please bless my rest
There comes a voice between each nod
“Be still my child and know I’m God”
