Inside the Apple

Something far worse than rotting fruit lived

Inside the Apple

I bit too deep,

the sweetness lied

beneath the blush,

a hard thing writhed.

Not worms,

no slow decay,

but armored thoughts

that came to stay.

They drank the core,

they carved the light,

with gleaming shells

and mouths of spite.

This fruit was mine,

I grew it clean,

but shadows breed

in things unseen.

I named it hope

and held it tight

till something hissed

beneath the bite.

Now silence hums

in polished red,

but deep inside

the pulp is dead.

I licked the juice,

it burned like sin,

a quiet death

that crawled within.

Too late to spit,

too sweet to see,

the poison was

the piece of me.
