Innocence Lost

A child broken, lost, and fractured...

Within my heart, the weight of grief...

Forever rotting with time passed.

A childhood that was all too brief...

Never should have been so short, fast -

Then taken by a ruthless thief -

No answers given when I asked,

For I was only young, a girl,

Caught up in a predator's twirl.

***

Those moments that I missed, now gone -

No chance to earn them back, destroyed,

For I was just a simple pawn

That fell into an endless void.

The innocence of girlhood fawn

Did not know to run, flee, avoid.

Instead, I was a lost one found

By one who'd have me all but drowned.

***

Today, my life goes on and I

Live each day as if he'd never been.

It is not easy but I try

Not to blame those guiltless men

Who just don't understand my cry;

For most don't know the where or when

A child broken, lost and fractured

Had been once innocent and lured.
