The words unspoken,
so many all at once:
ugly, fat, and undesirable
the words she calls me
as I gaze upon myself.
-
I am broken;
I suppose I wasn’t once;
slothful, useless, worthless.
The words she calls me
as I try to stop myself.
-
My heart torn open,
I feel it all at once.
a waste of air, of space, of life;
maybe she’s right,
I begin to tell myself.
-
Yet something breaks the pattern,
I can feel the rhythm changing…
beauty, strength, and more –
the resilience to survive:
the things I see in myself.
