Verse 1: Morning’s First Breath

The coffee steams its lazy psalm,

a hymn in curls above the cup.

I count the cracks in yesterday’s walls—

each one a bridge, not a rupture.

Verse 2: The Arithmetic of Small Mercies

Three petals cling to a wilted rose,

a rebellion against the trash bin’s yawn.

The barista misspells my name again—

her inkblot Jahn now a found sonnet.

Verse 3: Lessons in Letting Go

Rain gutters gargle August’s grief,

flooding the street with liquid braille.

I read aloud the puddle’s scripture:

“What slips through fingers feeds the roots.”

Verse 4: Ode to Unseen Hands

The bus driver’s nod, the librarian’s thumb

smoothing the spine of a battered Rumi—

they stitch the fraying edges of the night

with needles dipped in borrowed light.

Verse 5: The Alchemy of Scars

Gratitude, that sly chemist,

turns blisters into harvest moons.

Even the clock’s impatient cough

becomes a metronome for miracles.

Verse 6: Feast of the Finite

We dine on expired coupons and laughter,

our table a raft in the dark.

The check? A leaf torn from the oak,

signed by the wind in cursive smoke.

Coda: How to Drink the Sky

This is how we unlearn hunger—

not by clutching constellations,

but by cupping the rain

that pools in the gutter’s palm,

by naming the silence

between heartbeats holy.
