A very specific cat wearing a very specific hat
might have been the beginning of the discovery
that the thoughts and sorrows of a horse could reveal
a terrible knowledge of cruelty in this world.
Next came a black devil who flew without wings
faster than a wind king with God in his name.
Kings will forevermore dominate
not only in the land of once upon a time,
but also a future adjacent to a cave of crystal.
The most powerful might well be overlooked
in a topiary both frozen and haunted.
Old friends oft revisited, but never jealous of angels dim,
fools wise or misunderstood betrayers of lambs.
