In the world today
Hopeless. Lightless. Joyless. Trapped.
Wrath.
In the world today
In the world today
We are governed by rage
Yet told not to feel it
Told to ignore it
To simply accept it.

Sorrow
In the world today
In the world today
We are bombarded by sadness
Yet told to embrace it
Told to wallow in it
To simply accept it.

Helplessness,
In the world today
In the world today
We are forced into a position of inaction
Yet told to refuse it
Told to fight it
To simply reject it.

Hopelessness.
In the world today
In the world today
We are pursued by inability
Yet told to embrace it
Told to wallow in it
To simply accept it

Inaction
In the world today
In the world today
We are crushed by the desire to be alone
Yet told to refuse it
Told to fight it
To simply reject it

We are pushed and we are pulled
Hither and thither
Yes and no
We are punished for speaking out
We are abused for staying silent.
Stay and go.
Soaring and drowning.
We are crushed and we are liberated.
Please do not resist.

Stay still
Or stay in motion
Neither a good option
Both an act of will.

Wrong in deed.

Impotently we stare at that which we would change
Actively we strive for joy long lasting
Restricted in our impact's range
Lamented in our wakeless passing.

To stay in place would be jolly
To go forth would be folly
Yet so too the reverse is true
Yet so too whatever we do
No matter what our class or age
No matter from what we make our cage
To stay would be jolly
To go would be folly
Yet so too the reverse is true
Yet we remain trapped, whatever we do.
Our choice is wrong.
Be in deed or song.

the world today is a mess. Well done
Very well done. Thank you😊💕
Wow! This is fantastic and should be a TS. Well done.
Wow, this was really emotional for me! I could feel this sense of being stuck or frozen in time/ action. I got this sense of a crushing weigh from expectations and the weight of the world. I also love the impact the repetitive language had on the overall piece, it was very cleverly done!! Great work Alex!! Also, if I misinterpreted please correct me!! I am the worst at interpreting poetry, like it just goes over my head and I can't grasp it very well!!
Brilliant use of repetition! Nicely done!
Yes, full on attack of the damned if you do, damned if you don't. Good use of strophe forms and refrain the explore, get the message across, even give an obsessive incantatory sway to it. Well versed.
Your poem made me remember the times I broke down crying because I couldn't do anything during the Russian Ukraine war. My therapist told me not to worry about things I couldn't control. But it truly breaks my heart! Your poem was so relatable!
oooof. Nicely done. this feels way too on point, doesn't it?😥
Wow! Som many layers of thought. So much truth to contemplate and wonder where I stand and which direction the world is going. Well done indeed!
Man this is giving me Linkin Park vibes. Really well-written, Alexander. Lots (and lots) (and lots) of food for thought. Great work.
I'm not entirely sure why but this made me think og 'First they came' by Pastor Martin Niemoller. Beautifully written but tragically true of out life and times. And many that came before 🤍
