The sleeping saviour peacefully rests below deck

Assuredly knowing that all is well with the boat

Since He is author and creator of wind and waves, seas and tides and creation all

And created cannot destroy creator

The passengers we run to and fro

Afraid and shaken by thrashing seas and violent waves

Rocking the boat here and there

Causing panic in hearts and minds

The fear of death icing our souls

The devil gleaming is at his best work

Causing trouble, panic and unrest

Knowing full well that he has bounds

But itching to steal the calm where faith and grace abide

Making sure to thwart communication between the sleeping saviour and his harried children

Alas, he was not watching when a weary one ran below to heckle the saviour

Saying, 'Saviour, care you not that we drown?'

Surprised he responded, ' Who told you you could drown when I am in the boat?'

Echoing another question of ages past 'Who told you you were naked?'

He knew the usurper was at work

His swift command to waves, winds and seas to still

Had the evil one slithering defeated away

Knowing that the commander of nature itself had proclaimed the edict he could not upturn

The master having no time for long-defeated foes cast him nary a glance

Turning to his disciples he asked,

'Why did you not believe I am with you?'

'How do you want to believe when I am no longer here?'

With bowed heads, we give no answer

But he hears our silent prayer - Dear Lord, strengthen our weak arms, legs, hearts and minds. Help us to see with your eyes and the eyes of the Spirit
