shallow can’t survive depth

with courage he was never blessed

fearing the threat of being undressed

vulnerability a risk

to all he has suppressed

.

pushed far below his silky allure

which draws the youth to his door

a radiance they cannot ignore

wide eyes excited to explore

persuaded by promise of skin adored

.

shallow lives with eternal tension

terrified to experience intimate connection

in fear of judgement and of questions

about the youth

he’s immorally quenching

.

youth is ignorant and unprepared

it dives head first without a care

splashing on the surface unaware

of thick silt hidden

beneath bright glare

.

shallow can’t relate to depth

for in deceit she’s not adept

depth bares her scars without regret

not hiding pain nor drowning shame

her truth is shallow’s threat

This is going to be odd, but while reading this, It felt like it personified student loans and debt; the fact that youth is ignorant and unprepared and dives head first without a care, it just reminds me of predatory student loan companies screwing over students. Though I know that is not what you're talking about, I loved this poem; those lines hit me the hardest: youth is a fever we can't break, and I miss it.

  • Depth bares her scars without regret. That line was so profound and I absolutely loved it! You hit hard with the truth!

Well damn, that spoke right to me. It's hard to remember that depth has some worth. Loved it :)

Oh, the chills from this. This is so sad and I love how you personified "shallow" and "depth". Seriously effing great, Kayleigh!
