In the Quiet

Shhhh... I think it's almost here.

What happens in the quiet?

Do we riot or settle for less?

Are we putting on our armor,

Or suiting up in Sunday best?

~ ~ ~

What happens after the fire?

After it has blazed and scorched our flesh?

Are we to keep on fighting,

Or will you lay us down to rest?

~ ~ ~

What happens after the excitement,

when we return to our boring lives?

30 days proud to be American,

and 335 fighting for our rights.

~ ~ ~

What happens after the parade?

When you wipe clean your streets.

Will we go back into hiding?

Where it's safer to be meek.

~ ~ ~

What happens in the dark?

When we reassess our fears.

With no one around to count the blessings,

And no one to wipe the tears.

~ ~ ~

What happens at the close?

Is it the start of something new?

Or are we to continue the fight, for the right to live in a world that comes easy to you?

~ ~ ~

What happens in the quiet?

What happens in the dark?

What happened to the excitement?

What happened to that spark?

~ ~ ~

What happens in the quiet?

When those four weeks are no more.

Do we pray for better days?

Or rise and demand more.
