In the midst.

A cold time.

In the midst of winters storm,

Where all is contrary to the norm,

With chilling cold to freeze the bone,

And bring a callous heart to solid stone,

In the midst of winters storm,

Where the fire dies to perform,

With hope that dims throughout the night,

And no oil to preserve the light,

In the midst of winters storm,

Where blizzards hail would sooner scorn,

With an unyielding posture like a mountain pass,

And trials of a higher class,

In the midst of winters storm,

Where prolonged weeks, ill content,

With the will yielding to a tyrants bent,

His armies claim their portion, all but spent,

In the midst of winters storm,

Where ice subdues all that’s been done,

With little space to hide or run,

Only to yearn for the arrival of the morning sun!
