In the Maze of Her Mind

The Little Genius

Photos of my Mom!

The lady with the curious mind

Wanders lost, searching for a sign

Of the brilliance she left behind

≈≈≈

Her memories, like threads, unravel

Weaving a tapestry of confusion

Her intellect, once sharp like a knife

Now dulled by the cruel intrusion

≈≈≈

The shelves of her mind, once neatly lined

With volumes of knowledge and wit

Now lay empty, barren and unrefined

≈≈≈

Her eyes, once bright with the fire of invention

Now glazed with the mist of forgetfulness

Her hands, once steady in their intention

Now tremble with the weight of her distress

≈≈≈

She longs to return to the days of her prime

When her thoughts danced like fireflies in the night

But time has robbed her of her shine

Leaving her scared in a world without light

≈≈≈

So, she wanders on, lost in the maze

Of a mind that no longer serves her well

A genius lady with dementia, forever dazed

Dedicated to my mom Isabel... despite being trapped in this cruel maze her sincerity and love still shine through... that she will never lose... My mom truly has a heart of gold.

I know this must have been difficult to write. The constant emphasis on comparison and contrast of youth and older age adds so much complexity and sympathy.
